His left foot was in contact with the earth, and it was reacting violently to this forced contact. Sparks were issuing from the sole of his shoe, lashing out at the ground. His right foot had shot up into the air, resisting any efforts he made to control it. Already an electric ring was forming around him, the static in the air building up more and more the longer he tried to resist. His hair was flailing madly in bunches, the electricity binding it together in some places, and pushing it apart at others. Slowly he was forcing his left foot further down, trying desperately to touch the dirt.
And then he gave up trying, and he was blasted into the air again. Another unsuccessful attempt to unite with the earth.
The Cyprien were the air breed of Earth’s Intelligent Life. Freedom to roam the skies seemed appealing to the other breeds, but the Cypriens longed to walk the planet surface, to leave footprints in their wake. They felt cursed in their floating existence, much to everyone else’s confusion. How they could think of it as a problem, no-one else would ever understand.
This in itself annoyed Cren. He longed to touch down to earth once more, as his ancestors had once done before. Sadly his magic was only beginning to develop, and he realized it would probably be a long time until he progressed far enough to realize his dream. No matter. On with practicing.
Intenmatio
The magic which a moment ago had been resisting his every effort to touch ground was now swarming to his upheld palm, the blue glow shining through his outspread fingers and causing eerie shadows on the ground below. That obviously as close as he was going to get, he though. His shadow.
While he continued daydreaming, the glow was trembling and shuddering in his palm, as his concentration drifted. A sharp shock thread on the tip of his ear quickly brought his attention back to the glow. He imagined the ball he had been taught to visualize forming in his hand, the energy flowing from his abdomen, through his muscles to his fingertips.
Meerdo
Nothing. Again his spell was not working. Where was the smell of magic? Where were the pyrotechnics? Cren was getting frustrated.
